My Story

Living day in and day out with multiple chronic illnesses is painful enough. Going through surgeries, frequenting the hospital, and attending a slew of doctor appointments is time consuming enough. Assimilating to a world made for healthy people as a disabled person is soul crushing enough. The last thing chronically ill folks, like me, want to deal with are jumping through hoops to get procedures and medications approved by insurance.

I’ve fought this battle with Medicare and Medicaid too many times to count. From demanding my formula for my tube feeds be covered to appealing the decision not to cover a certain formulation of a medication I need to survive, I’ve made more emotionally draining phone calls than you can imagine. I continue to fight with insurance to get proper care every day. One day I hope I won’t have to.

My Motivation and Inspiration

I believe that every person deserves access to good affordable healthcare. It is a human right and should not be a privilege just to those who are fortunate enough to have access to care and funds.
