My Story

I have been dealing with chronic pain since about 2006. It really amped up and started to get bad in 2016-2018. I have done physical therapies, mental therapies (talk, CBT, ACT, PRT, mindfulness, meditation, thought process recognition retraining, sensory retraining, so on, so forth), tens unit, massage chiropractor, alternative, etc.

DESPITE telling doctors I'm getting worse, they do nothing! I live in rural community that recently adopted a State sanctioned monopoly-healthcare-system. Things have got much worse with the entire system! They don't follow up or explain results. I am getting tossed around like a hot potato between far too many doctors. I am left in tears for 6 months by pain management, because they dropped the ball when a nurse left the practice. They continue to chastise and punish me, for having cervical neck pain. I broke down and joined the Texas CUP medical marijuana program. Turns out, that isn't allowed because now I'm 'blacklisted' from any and all drugs that might actually work.

For now, illegal marajuana works. The legal dispensaries no longer deliver to my location. Anyhow, I do not see why it matters since I have never been on any real pain meds ever, only SSRIs and anticonvulsants that do absolutely nothing. Doctor wont let me stop, either. Even though these meds do nothing and my pain is horrible. I am also struggling with severe perimenopausal mood swings, and cant get timely help. PCP cant or won't, prescribe anything. I'm out of choices but still not getting the help I need.

I CANNOT drive 3 hours to the nearest city with decent doctors. I'm stuck with no autonomy or voice, surrounded by inept doctors and staff. I had to literally yell and raise hell to get an appointment for my neck. I have contacted both my insurance and patient relations. No one has helped me period. I want to file charges, but it is hard to go up against an entire health system.

My Motivation and Inspiration

I want real change. I don't want to see women struggle for 20 to 30 years like I have. Chronic pain is not a mental health condition and should not be treated as such as a primary approach. I am not listened to, and I am so fed up with having to "turn ugly" before I am taken seriously. Those of us with chronic conditions and pain, should not be punished. I want to help other women stand up for themselves. Especially against dismissive gaslighting and non-prescription treatment of severe pain.
